Liverpool have got to move quickly if they're to beat Newcastle United to yet another star. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed an incoming bid.
Newcastle United's transfer team will absolutely hate Liverpool. Detest them, even. And that's without even considering the Alexander Isak last summer.
The Reds now boast three players in their first-team squad that had looked destined for Newcastle. Dominik Szoboszlai if the first - Newcastle thought they had a deal there before Liverpool accidentally learned of a release clause.
Hugo Ekitike, too, was near-certain to be a Magpie. He was their choice to replace Isak but Liverpool swooped in and signed the Frenchman. And Isak.
It became a hat trick this summer. Victor Munoz was supposedly ready to have a medical at Newcastle before the Reds got involved. He's now a Liverpool player, like the rest of them.
Add in the Isak saga and it's easy to understand why Newcastle may be sick of things. However, we'd like Liverpool to run it back one more time.
We wrote earlier in the week that Johan Manzambi looks like a spectacular signing after a brilliant season at Freiburg has been followed with an exceptional World Cup. He's one of the very best in his age group worldwide and Liverpool, who are in the market for a midfielder, should pounce.
Only, once again, Newcastle lead the race and are eager to sign Manzambi. Fabrizio Romano now confirms that a bid is being prepared and will go in shortly.
"Newcastle are preparing opening official bid for Switzerland gem Johan Manzambi to be sent soon," he wrote. "Initial contacts made over recent days and proposal to SC Freiburg will follow.
"He’s scored 3 goals, delivered 2 assists in excellent World Cup campaign so far."
Yes, it's ridiculous to want it a fourth time. No, we wouldn't regret it. Manzambi is a special talent and the profile Liverpool need in the middle of the pitch.
So Richard Hughes, please run the old plan back one more time.
