Andoni Iraola has been installed as new Liverpool head coach.
Following the departure of Arne Slot the Spaniard can now get to work planning for the future. One of the big issues facing the 43-year-old is a rebuild of the midfield.
The outgoing Premier League champions last refreshed the midfield back in 2023 with a host of signings. But there are signs of wear and tear in that midfield and there has been no shortage of contenders linked to arrive.
With Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones and potential Wataru Endo on the way out of Merseyside significant recruitment will need to be done in the middle third.
And according to Sports Boom one of Iraola’s key midfield targets has already okayed a move to Anfield alongside his old boss.
Alex Scott, 22, has blossomed into a top-class performer under the guidance of Iraola at Bournemouth.
The former Bristol City metronome arrived on the South Coast back in 2023 - and has developed into one of the most promising midfielders in the Premier League since then.
The report adds that contract talks are at a standstill with Bournemouth - potentially opening the door to a reunion with Scott at Anfield.
“New Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola is already plotting an ambitious move to bring one of his former Bournemouth favourites to Anfield, with highly-rated midfielder Alex Scott emerging as a major transfer target,” the report reads.
“Liverpool are closely monitoring Scott's situation at Bournemouth after negotiations over a new contract hit a stumbling block.
“The Cherries have been keen to secure the midfielder's long-term future, but talks are understood to have stalled, opening the door to potential suitors.
“Scott is believed to be open to a fresh challenge and would welcome the opportunity to reunite with the manager who played a major role in his progress at Bournemouth.
“Liverpool are expected to oversee a significant squad rebuild this summer, and Scott is viewed as the type of player capable of fitting seamlessly into Iraola's plans.”
