Reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League wouldn't make everything in Arne Slot's garden look rosy, but it sure would make it look better.
The Liverpool boss has faced a new barrage of criticism following Liverpool's performance in the disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, when a chance to make a statement in attempts to qualify for Europe's premier competition next season took a huge hit.
In the here and now though come Galatasaray, and the second leg of a last-16 tie with the Reds 1-0 down from the first.
On such occasions in the past Anfield has expected a reaction and an attempt at mounting a comeback, but with inspiration and belief seemingly at a low ebb right now it will be interesting to hear what Slot says ahead of the visit of the Turkish champions.
Ian Doyle is in place at Anfield to hear from the Reds boss and his vice-captain Andy Robertson, and you can follow his updates from 3.30pm GMT.
It's the most important one as it's the next one, but that's a bit too simple. After Galatasaray another big one is coming up against Brighton. We feel the importance of this game as we are able to reach QF of the CL. That would be something special for me as it would be my first and it would be special for all of us as you can't take a QF in CL for granted no matter how this club has performed in the past.
Shows how much the ball we had. Doesn't concern me at all. I saw us sprinting back in the last minutes.
In general we are sprinting back when it's needed in most situations.
I haven't seen what Jamie Carragher said. I agree with a lot of thing Jamie has said across this season but this time I disagree from (what you tell me) he said. It wouldn't be weird this season if the players had given up v Tottenham but they didn't. A team of individuals that doesn't work together doesn't show that resilience after their 120th setback this season.
That we aren't the unit we want I agree with, but that comes from not playing many times together. It's not like we are 11 individuals, I completely disagree. But if he means we are not perfect together then he is right, the connections aren't as strong yet as players who have played together a longer time.
He's okay now and back to 100%. He is declared completely fit and doesn't feel any discomfort.
He is ready to start and hopefully he can play 90 minutes or even longer.
We thought we had a goal and a penalty and VAR ruled it out. We had our chances and we didn't take them. That is also down to Galatasaray, there is a great energy in their team and they throw everything in front of the ball. They have a good mentality and defenders.
We need to score a goal. We know that's not easy after facing them twice. But we will fight for it and go for it.
Of course I feel pressure, we all feel pressure. In this industry every single day there's pressure. We are working at a beautiful club with great history and we can achieve quarter-finals of CL. But it's also nice to have this pressure as it would otherwise mean we are out or at a lower level. We embrace this pressure.
It's a beautiful song and that immediately gives us the right vibe.
My complete focus is on preparing the players as best as I can, making sure we give ourselves a big chance of winning the game. Working incredily hard to get the result we need. If you want to look at it, we always feel we have the support of the fans. We never feel we walk alone and we won't feel that tomorrow.
Sometimes you feel a little bit alone as a manager when you walk in and you've lost, but players and staff members and supporters and family members are always there to support you in the first minutes after the game. I've never felt alone here, not one minute.
If there's any impact between playing home or away we have to show tomorrow.
History and this season has shown we are stronger at home than away.
We completed deserve to be in this round, we beat Real Madrid here, Atletico here, Inter and Marseille (away).
We can look at the goal we conceded v Spurs and think everything is going against us, or think we deserve to be in this round.
We are working extremely hard to make sure the details are in our favour and not in favour of Galatasaray like last time.
I did something wrong with the team when we won the league and some things which I did wrong in hindsight.
All the decisions I've made are to help the team win.
It's never nice they are frustrated as fans aren't frustrated after you win. You are frustrated and disappointed when you don't win.
When I came here I was told this club was different and the fans will support the manager for a long time. If it's true (the fans are restless), I don't feel it at all. I must have done a lot of things wrong then that's never a nice feeling to have.
We have played them already twice and last twice. The good thing is we play at home and have support of our fans.
What I liked after we conceded the 1-1 the players showed immediately the commitment they had, they sprinted back to stop a Tottenham counter and then sprinted forward on a counter.
There haven't been many games where we have been outworked or not created as many chances as the opposition.
I'm 100% sure our fans will be as they always were especially on a European night.
Alex is not available and Joe we will decide tomorrow. He wasn't ready to train today. He had too many issues after the last game althoughhe had the issues after the Galatasaray. Wasn't the plan to play against Tottenham but Ibou felt his hamstring and didn't want to risk him.
He is going to try tomorrow, Joe.
The fact you see Alex on the pitch shows he is getting closer. He won't be available Saturday either. No timescale.
If you have done months on the individual session it's quite a step up to train with the team and then it's a step up to play in Premier League and Champions League.
The Liverpool boss is here so we can begin...
That's enough from Robertson. It's Slot up next...
They've beaten us twice this season so we know they are a good team.
It's not about individuals, they are a good team overall and we are going to have to compete with them.
The advantage for them in the first leg was they had the home support behind us. We were below par in both games and we can't be below par tomorrow. We have to be better than the two games we have played.
We have to show we are a difficult team to play against.
Since I came to the club, social media and platforms within those apps have got bigger. As experienced lads we are quite good at blanking it out.
We have seen improvement in all of the younger players this season not getting too high or too low after games. It's important for our younger players to not try and listen to the outside noise as much.
We're all good players, we're at Liverpool for a reason and it's up to use to show that on the pitch.
One comeback that comes to mind is Barcelona. Nobody gave us a chance that time but this time a lot of people are giving us a chance. You have to rely on your experience of having been in this position before because that is what will help us.
We haven't been good enough at killing teams off this season, on Sunday we didn't kill them off and gave Tottenham confidence. We need to be better at that when we are on top.
Some of our performances have made it harder, I wouldn't say our style of play.
We have made too many mistakes sometimes and given the opposition the first chance. There's been a frustration on the pitch as well as the stands.
We can't waste any moments. We have to try and win it and hopefully win it enough in 90 to win on aggregate.
I don't think we really had a bump in the road last season. This season has been a bit more up and down but he has stayed calm, he has tried to find the asnwers and him and all the experienced lds trying to put their finger on why consistency isn't there.
he's thinking about it most as h'es the manager and it's his job.
He's trying to find the answers and everyone is trying to help him. But the pressure is big on all of us at the moment as the results aren't there.
He is facing a lot more scrutiny than he did last year and so are some of hte players.
We believe this squad is good enough to be in last eight of Champions League but we have to show it.
We didn't show it enough last week, we struggled all over the pitch and the performance level has to go up.
In the Champions League we've had good performances and we have to show that again.
It's a massive game as it's the next game, but it's massive because we believe we can get through the tie.
It's up to all of us to produce a performance and send the fans home happier.
With trophies, even when we were in amazing moments in 18/19 and 19/20, we didn't look too far ahead.
We have dreams of winning trophies but we only focus on the game ahead.
That's always the way we have worked. In terms of Champions League qualification, this club demands it and the fans demand it. This club has to be in the Champions League year in year out. In my time here there's only been one season we weren't in it, and let's hope that isn't the case this season.
I don't think we are concerned about that. The most disappointing thing is the fans went home unhappy.
That gives you the biggest satisfaction that people are heading back to the pubs or their families and they are happy.
But that concerns us we haven't.
Under the lights, with those fans and that stadium, they always produce special nights. I've been so lucky to have so many in my time here and I don't think tomorrow night will be any different.
But we have to give them something to cheer.
We are all frustrated we can't find consistency because last season that's what set us apart.
It's hard to put the finger on why.
We are all working towards it but for whatever reason we haven't found it yet.
But we can't give up trying. That's the only way we are going to turn this season around.
We are still in the FA Cup and have to sort our league form out. That's a fact.
I don't think this is the day to discuss that. 24 hours before a massive Champions League game I don't think abybody should be talking about their future. We have such a massive game ahead of us.
That full focus of the team is trying to get through tomorrow.
We have given ourselves an uphill battle but the focus has to be on that.
The Liverpool left-back is here so we can begin...
A big warm welcome here from Anfield for the press conference ahead of tomorrow's Champions League clash against Galatasaray.
It's a lovely day, which is very unusual for England. At any point.
Slot and Robertson will be speaking from 1530 hours. Synrchronise watches.
Joe Gomez was missing for Liverpool as they prepared for Wednesday's Champions League showdown against Galatasaray.
The Reds take on the Turkish side in their round of 16 second leg at Anfield looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first game in Istanbul last week.
Gomez featured at right-back at Rams Park before switching to centre-back for the disappointing 1-1 Premier League draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
But the defender was the main new absentee for Arne Slot's men during their open training session at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
There were otherwise no surprises among the senior Liverpool players being put through their paces in front of the media at Kirkby, with Ibrahima Konate the most obvious replacement for Gomez should the England international not be available.
Alexander Isak was spotted training away from the first team while following an individual training programme on a back pitch as he continues his rehabilitation from the broken leg that has sidelined him since before Christmas.
Liverpool's squad was bolstered by Academy youngsters Lucas Pitt, Kareem Ahmed and Joe Bradshaw given Amara Nallo and Kieran Morrison, likely to be on the bench against Galatasaray, had started on Monday night for the under-21s in their Premier League defeat at Manchester City.
Remember the first leg? Of course you do. Even if you don't want to.
Liverpool will be bidding to overturn a 1-0 deficit at Anfield on Wednesday night after Mario Lemina scored the only goal of the game in Istanbul last Tuesday, when the Reds suffered their second defeat to Galatasaray this season.
Surely that won't become three, will it?
Been a tough few days for Arne Slot hasn't it?
The Liverpool boss has faced criticism from all quarters after Sunday's 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, but none of it will have hurt as much as the booing from Reds fans immediately after the full-time whistle.
Can Liverpool respond in the Champions League? Slot will be with us to preview the last-16 second leg against Galatasaray from around 3.30pm this afternoon.
