Liverpool manager Arne Slot is 'hopeful' that first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be available to face relegation-threatened Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.
But the Dutch coach is not 100% certain that the Reds' No. 1 will be able to return to first-team action in time for the Mother's Day showdown after pulling up in training with a muscle injury.
Slot's second-choice keeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, deputised in goal against Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday evening and the Georgian international will need to be on stand-by to step up once more if Alisson doesn't successfully complete a team training session today (Friday)
When asked about the Brazilian's availability on Friday morning during his pre-match press conference, Slot said: "He has been with the physios and rehab until now and we are training today, so let's see if he can join today, that is something I expect but not 100% sure yet. I've not spoken to him. I'm hopeful."
When pressed further on the specific nature of Alisson's injury, Slot added: "He felt something, when he passed the ball, in one of his muscles, but after we checked it, it was so minor, that we think it doesn't have to take very long but as always games follow up so fast that he had to miss the one against Galatasaray and hopefully he's available and ready for Sunday.
"If not, I'm expecting him, if things go as planned, definitely against Galatasaray [on Wednesday]."
The Liverpool manager also gave updates on the fitness of Federico Chiesa, who missed the trip to Istanbul through illness, and long-term absentee Alexander Isak.
Speaking about Chiesa, Slot said: "I expect he feels better now, because he felt unwell the day before the game and we are now three or four days further ahead, so I think he's able to train with us today again."
The outlook was significantly more long-term for Isak, who broke his leg under a challenge whilst scoring against Sunday's opponents in the reverse fixture in December - a match that the Reds won 2-1.
Slot added: "[Isak is] with the rehab team still and not with the team yet."
Liverpool FC and adidas have unveiled a retro Bringback collection inspired by the club's 1995/96 away kit.
