Bayern Munich executive Uli Hoeness has told Liverpool that the German giants will play no part in bolstering their transfer ambitions, while also taking a swipe at their disappointing campaign despite a lavish summer of spending. Liverpool have been dealt a significant blow by the shock announcement that Mohamed Salah will depart the club at the end of the 2025-26 season, meaning a successor will be required.
Salah has agreed to terminate his contract early, releasing Liverpool from future wage commitments. Bayern Munich sensation Michael Olise has been firmly on Liverpool's wishlist for quite some time, and Salah's impending departure could prompt the club to pursue a high-profile move this summer.
However, Bayern have absolutely no intention of letting the French winger leave and have zero desire to conduct business with Liverpool.
Hoeness is a true Bayern icon, spending nine seasons at the club as a player before transitioning into an executive position. The 74-year-old currently sits on the board, having previously served as both club president and general manager.
During a recent interview with DPA, Hoeness made his position crystal clear should Liverpool attempt to bring Olise to Merseyside. "Remember Liverpool spent €500m last summer and is having a very bad season," he said.
"So we won't be contributing to them playing better next year."
Bayern are flourishing in the Bundesliga and have progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals, with Olise proving instrumental to their achievements.
The French winger has netted 11 goals and laid on 18 assists in 25 Bundesliga outings, while contributing a further three goals and four assists in nine Champions League matches.
Bayern recruited Olise from Crystal Palace in 2024, and now regard him as one of the finest talents on the planet. Olise remains under contract until 2029 but reportedly has no release clause within his deal.
The winger has drawn attention from elite clubs including Real Madrid and Liverpool, yet Bayern insist he is not available.
Bayern's director of sport, Max Eberl, also dismissed any prospect of a future Olise exit during a conversation with Sport Bild.
"We're not even wasting a thought on that," Eberl said. "He is a Bayern Munich player and has every opportunity here that top players could wish for. We want to shape the future with him."
Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen reinforced the same stance. He said: "No matter which club tries to turn his head: anyone playing for Bayern Munich knows what they have here.
"We compete for titles, and that is the most important thing for exceptional players like him. For this type of player, it's about winning trophies.
"There are not many clubs where you can do that, and we are certainly one of them. That's why I am completely convinced that Michael knows what he has with us."
Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and Fanatics has cut the price of this season's kits with 'M. Salah 11' printing.
