Former Liverpool star Roberto Firmino delivered a clear message with a goal against one of his former club’s rivals.
Firmino left the Reds as a free agent back in 2023, where he went on to join Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League. After spending two years in Saudi Arabia, Firmino went on to move to Qatar where he joined Al Sadd on a permanent deal last summer.
Monday night saw Al Sadd take on Al Hilal in the round of 16 clash in the AFC Champions League, where Firmino and Co. emerged victorious.
The match finished 3-3 after extra time, where Firmino was on the score sheet, before Al Sadd went on to win the game on a penalty shootout.
Firmino scored the sixth and final goal of the match to equalise for Al Sadd in the 70th minute, with the former Liverpool striker going on to celebrate by pointing to his ear.
While Firmino missed Al Sadd’s opening penalty of the subsequent shootout, his club still managed to claim a 4-2 victory and progress to the next round of the competition.
The goal for Firmino was his 15th in all competitions so far this season, and he helped Al Sadd reach the quarter-final of the Champions League.
The former Liverpool striker endured a tough couple of years following his Anfield exit, scoring 21 goals across two seasons for Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia before his departure last summer.
The 34-year-old will now prepare to face Vissel Kobe in the quarter-final of the AFC Champions League, which will take place on Thursday evening.
