Jurgen Klopp meets walking footballers who play as part of the LFC Foundation's programme at Anfield Sports & Community Centre
Jurgen Klopp has hailed the work done by the LFC Foundation as he prepares to return to Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
A Liverpool Legends team including former players like Steven Gerrard, Thiago Alcantara, Pepe Reina and Peter Crouch will take on a Borussia Dortmund Legends side.
The Reds will be managed by Sir Kenny Dalglish, with Klopp, Ian Rush and John Aldridge assisting the Kop icon.
The German is an honorary ambassador for the LFC Foundation, which aims to tackle social inequality home and away. It also focuses on improving health, championing learning and enhancing employability opportunities for all.
For every £1 invested in the LFC Foundation over the past five seasons, it generated over £13 in social value for the benefit of the local community, and this afternoon’s game will be the ninth Legends' game at Anfield.
The previous eight have helped to raise over £9million for the LFC Foundation, and funds raised from this year’s game will support the work of the LFC Foundation and the club’s former players' association, Forever Reds.
And speaking at an LFC Foundation event at Anfield Sports & Community Centre on Friday afternoon, Klopp said: “For the foundation and all the good work that the people are doing in there (sports centre), it is ridiculous; it is the warmest place I have been for a long time.
“The whole atmosphere here is unbelievable, and it is all possible because some nice people and good people put money in.
“That is what everyone is doing tomorrow when they watch the game. On top of that, they see the legends, and they see the Dortmund legends and stuff like that.
“But the game itself is obviously, at least for me, this weekend in a ranking that is not top three, even though I am looking forward to it and looking forward to Anfield and gets bits of the atmosphere.
“So I am really happy about being here, but I really don’t like my role. Being Jurgen Klopp is not every day a pure joy; everywhere I go is a big fuss and stuff like that.
“But being here and making kind of a big fuss is for a good cause, and for that I am more than happy to be here and stand here to talk to everybody and do whatever people ask me to do, and we can raise as much as we can for this fantastic, fantastic foundation."
