Jurgen Klopp has opened up about the unique experience he enjoyed on his return to Anfield last weekend for the Liverpool Legends clash against one of his former clubs, Borussia Dortmund. The ex‑Reds boss was back on Merseyside on Saturday and, this time, took on a different role, serving as assistant coach to Sir Kenny Dalglish in the Anfield dugout.
Dalglish led the Liverpool Legends, with Klopp joining goalscoring icons Ian Rush and John Aldridge on the touchline to support the Kop hero. It marked Klopp's first visit to Anfield since watching the Reds, under his successor Arne Slot, lift the Premier League trophy against Crystal Palace on the final day of last season.
Liverpool made the perfect start, with Thiago opening the scoring after just six minutes before Jay Spearing doubled the lead with a stunning strike before half-time.
Dortmund hit back after the break, as Mohamed Zidan pulled one back just past the hour mark and Jan Koller later equalised to deny Liverpool the win.
Taking to Instagram, Klopp spoke about his 'dream' return to Liverpool and highlighted what an honour it was to stand alongside three Reds legends.
He wrote: "A dream you don’t dare to dream became true: First time as an assistant coach in my life.
"What an honour to assist Sir Kenny, alongside Ian and John! I hope I did an ok job and surely we’ve had a lot of fun…"
Speaking after the match on Saturday, Klopp said: "Enjoyed every second. My role was definitely not to have a lot of words. I was here for the Foundation and to be part of a really special experience.
"For me, a very special experience after a while - being around, being that close, seeing all the Liverpool lads and then seeing the Dortmund lads as well because that was like 80 per cent of my players.

"And you don’t meet very often and have them all together in one room. It’s really cool. It was really, really, really nice.
"And the people suck it in. It’s just so nice to see all the boys playing, but I think Thiago alone was worth the ticket!"
