Jurgen Klopp's return is on the horizon as he prepares for a charity clash between Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund Legends. And ex-Reds striker John Aldridge will soon ask the German if he'd come back to manage the club.
Having arrived at Anfield in 2015, Klopp achieved legendary status during his nearly nine-year tenure, guiding Liverpool to eight titles, including the Premier League and Champions League.
Klopp stepped away on his own accord in 2024 with almost 500 games as Reds manager under his belt. He was replaced by Arne Slot, who won the top-flight crown in his debut season but has suffered a mixed bag of results this campaign.
Since January 2025, the 58-year-old has served as Red Bull's Global Head of Soccer, though he'll be pitchside once again on Saturday during the charity match, organised by the LFC Foundation. It is during this event that Aldridge will endeavour to ask an all-important question.
Klopp will assist Sir Kenny Dalglish on the management team for Liverpool Legends, alongside Ian Rush and Aldridge. Earlier this month, Aldridge claimed he would ask Klopp whether he'd return as Reds boss during the event.
Speaking to BOYLE Sports, Aldridge said: "I'm on the staff with Jurgen Klopp, so I'm going to ask him [to come back]! I think we've moved on from Jurgen, but we'd love him back if Arne Slot were to go.
"Obviously you would, because what he did for us, the passion he brought to the team, the club, and the fans was Bill Shankly-esque. If Arne Slot were to go, we'd love him to come back.
"But it doesn't work like that, does it? If he wanted to go to Real Madrid, then good luck to him. Good luck to him, as long as when he plays against Liverpool in the Champions League in years to come, I'd want him to play his reserves!"
Klopp's return to management has long been mooted, with rumours swirling that Los Blancos had contacted him and his representatives to enquire whether he'd take over at the Bernabeu. But speaking at the Magenta TV World Cup team presentation in Munich this week, Klopp lashed out at the speculation while dropping a hint about his future.
"If Real Madrid had called, we would have heard about it by now," Klopp said. "But that is all nonsense. They did not even call, not once. They didn't even call my agent. I've said that a thousand times already, but of course I'm not thinking about it at all right now. There's no reason to, thankfully.
"And as for the future, I'm not quite finished as a coach yet. So who knows what might come up in the next few years? But there are absolutely no plans in that regard."
Klopp will be present at Anfield on Saturday, however, as he coaches a side that features the likes of Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch, Dirk Kuyt and one of his former players, Thiago Alcantara. The match will kick off at 3:00pm.
