Former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold made his feelings crystal clear after hearing the news of Andy Robertson's upcoming departure from Anfield. The 27-year-old right-back shared an image on his Instagram story of the pair celebrating the club's Premier League title win in 2020.
He captioned the picture: "Legend forever [red loveheart emoji]." Liverpool supporters will certainly remember the Scottish international that way, having won two Premier League titles, two league cups, an FA Cup and Champions League, along with a FIFA Cup World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield.
It's a real end of an era with Mohamed Salah also leaving Anfield this summer. Both Salah and Robertson havd been linked with moves away from Liverpool, prior to their exits being confirmed.
Explaining why he's leaving Liverpool this summer, Robertson said: "Look, I think it has been well-documented, especially over the last year or so, I’ve had opportunities to leave and I’ve not taken them because of how difficult it is to leave this club. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.
"But I know football moves on, I know teams move on and I think now is the time for me to move on and go wherever my next move is and wherever my career takes me."
Andy Robertson is set to Liverpool at the end of the season.
Robertson will go down as one of the club's best-ever left-backs and the response from his teammates on social media to his departure speaks volumes.
Alexis Mac Allister commented: "Thank you for everything Andy! Top guy, leader and player." Fellow defender Conor Bradley said: "Legend [crying face emoji]."
Former Reds midfielder Jordan Henderson also echoed those sentiments. He said: "Legend. What a guy [red loveheart emoji]."
Jamie Carragher also commented: "Legend." While Caoimhim Kelleher said: "What a man, proper legend."
Robertson reportedly has four clubs interested in his signature come the end of his contract, with Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Napoli keen on signing the defender.
"It is never easy leaving a club like Liverpool," Robertson said. "It has been a huge part of mine and my family's life for the last nine years, but I know football moves on. I know teams move on and now is the time for me to move on.
"I will always look back on amazing memories at this football club. I have put my heart and soul into the club and when I got my chance I just wanted to make the people within this club and the supporters proud of the left back they are seeing performing week in, week out.
"I know my journey is coming to an end. It has been an incredible journey but I won't let up. This club means everything to me, the fans mean everything to me, the people connected with the club mean everything to me and I think I owe to them that until my very last day I will give everything to the football club which I have done for the last nine years.
"The nine years, I will look back with a big smile on my face and, yeah, it's been a hell of a journey."
