Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League were handed a boost after the victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby. The Reds claimed a dramatic 2-1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday afternoon to boost their chances of finishing in the top five.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool in the derby, just two minutes after Iliman Ndiaye had an opener ruled out for Everton for offside.
Everton then responded with a close-range finish from Beto to equalise, but Virgil van Dijk had the final say with a stoppage-time header to win the game for Liverpool.
The result leaves Liverpool in fifth place in the Premier League table, and are now seven points above sixth-placed Chelsea after their defeat to Manchester United a day earlier with five matches left to play.
