Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique believes there is no favourite in his side's upcoming Champions League clash against Liverpool. The Reds are through to the quarter-finals after thrashing Turkish side Galatasaray 4-0 on Wednesday night (4-1 on aggregate).
Arne Slot's men have struggled badly in the Premier League this season, with Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion seeing the reigning champions down in fifth. Their current position is likely to be enough for Champions League football next term, but a run of four league matches without a win has put that qualification in doubt.
An alternative route into Europe's elite competition is by winning this season's tournament, although the Reds face a daunting quarter-final tie against holders PSG next month. The first leg takes place in Paris on April 8, before the return leg at Anfield six days later.
And despite Liverpool's domestic struggles this season, Enrique cannot separate the two teams when asked about the last eight tie. Both sides met in the last 16 last season, with PSG narrowly coming through on penalties.
He said: "Liverpool holds good memories for us, of course. I remember last year. Liverpool were the best team in Europe at that stage; they were playing incredible football.
"We’re looking forward to this quarter-final, first in Paris, then in Liverpool.
"I’m fortunate to have an incredible team and intelligent players. They know that in this type of game, there are no favorites. It’ll be very positive for us to play these two games."
Liverpool also have a chance of winning domestic silverware with Slot's men taking on Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals - four days before the first leg against PSG.
And attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz has outlined the importance of building on any momentum generated in Europe and taking that into their remaining league and cup fixtures.
Speaking before the Brighton defeat to club media, the 22-year-old said: "It will be very important for us, also for our mind and also for the spirit in the team that we just create momentum and also an energy that we can win all the games now.
"It’s always good to have a better feeling and also a better atmosphere in the changing room because when you don’t win the team is not really happy.
"So, it’s always better to win and of course we need the points as well so we will be ready for the game and try to take the three points home."
Liverpool have reached the UEFA Champions League round of 16 where they face Galatasaray on March 18. Fans can watch the game on the TNT Sports Prime Video channel.
