Liverpool have reportedly begun planning for Mohamed Salah’s departure this summer by assessing potential targets. Salah announced on Tuesday that he would be leaving the Reds this summer, which will bring an end to his nine-year spell at Anfield.
There has been frequent speculation about Salah’s future for some time, even after the Egyptian put pen to paper on a new two-year contract extension last April.
As a result of Salah’s upcoming departure, reports are now emerging providing updates on what Liverpool could do to replace the 33-year-old this summer.
A report in the Daily Mail has claimed that Liverpool have already begun their succession plan for Salah, with the representatives of several players already being approached over a potential move this summer.
It remains to be seen which players Liverpool could target to try and replace Salah - who has scored 255 goals during his time at Anfield - this summer, with a host of wingers and wide forwards being linked over the last few months.
Salah has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool in the past, with the Saudi Pro League often mentioned as a potential destination.
It was in the summer of 2023 that Liverpool turned down a £150million bid from Al-Ittihad, and there have been reports that the Saudi club could return with a fresh attempt to sign the Egyptian this summer.
The aforementioned report from the Daily Mail has also claimed that clubs from the Saudi Pro League were interested in signing Salah during the January transfer window, and would have been willing to pay £100million for his signature.
Salah posted an emotional video confirming his exit from Liverpool on Tuesday, where he issued a message to the club’s supporters as well as his teammates, past and present.
"Hello everyone. Unfortunately the day has come,” Salah said. “This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
"I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life.
"Liverpool is not just a football club, it's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit. I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club.
"We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life. I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates past and present.
"And to the fans, I don't have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest time. It's something I will never forget and something I will take with me always.
"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home to me and my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
