Mohamed Salah has added some thoughtful details to the announcement that has confirmed that he will leave Liverpool in the summer. The forward announced the news in a social media post on Tuesday night.
In the emotional video, he said: "Hello everyone. Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
"I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club, it's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit. I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club.
"We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life.
"I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates past and present.
"And to the fans, I don't have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest time. It's something I will never forget and something I will take with me always.
"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you.
"This club will always be my home to me and my family.
"Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
The news means that Salah will bring an end a nine-year association with Liverpool. It’s no surprise then that there was a lot of thought put into his first goodbye to the club. Here’s a look at some of the finer details from the video.
During the announcement, Salah referred to the loss of Diogo Jota back in the summer. Jota died alongside his brother Andre Silva back in July in a car crash.
During the video, Salah said: "We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies, and we fought together through the hardest time in our life."
In the seconds after saying that, the video shows Salah with his teammates during a tribute to Jota at Anfield earlier this season. Following the opening game of the season, Salah was emotional in front of the Kop as fans sang Jota’s song.
The video shows Salah sitting in front of a trophy-laden cabinet that shows all of his accolades, including the Champions League trophy, two mini replicas of the Premier League trophies, as well as various golden boots and man of the match awards.
During his time at Liverpool, Salah has won two Premier Leagues, one Champions League, one FA Cup, three League Cups, one UEFA Supercup, one Club World Cup, four Premier League golden boots and three Premier League player of the year awards, among other personal accolades.
The end of the video shows a single shot of the trophy cabinet before fading to black.
Over Salah’s left shoulder hangs a picture on the wall with some memories at Liverpool that he is likely to look back on fondly. The picture is a montage of various moments of him in a Reds shirt, along with two red football boots.
In his final few games for the club, Salah will hope to add to both the trophy cabinet behind him, and the memories included in the picture.
