Liverpool fans booed Arne Slot’s decision to substitute Rio Ngumoha in the second half of their Premier League clash with Chelsea.
The teenage winger had played a vital role in the hosts’ first goal, supplying the assist for Ryan Gravenberch’s superb long-range effort.
However, with the Reds struggling to get back into the lead at Anfield, the Dutch head coach opted to bring on reinforcements.
It’s difficult to understand what was going through Slot’s head as he took Ngumoha off the field of play… but opted to keep Cody Gakpo on the pitch.
The Dutch attacker failed to register a single shot and only picked up one touch inside the opposition box before his own substitution 11 minutes later.
So, is it any surprise that Liverpool fans vented their frustration at the former decision in the 65th minute?

While Liverpool’s decision-makers won’t be swayed into making a sack call on the basis of some boos at Anfield, it only goes to show just how disconnected the home crowd feels with the head coach.
And that’s a problem you can’t ignore when you consider Liverpool to be a “manager’s club”.
We can bring up mitigating factors, we can bring up the lack of pace on the wings, we can bring up some misfortune in certain games.
But when you’ve only got one naturally pacy winger available, who has arguably been Liverpool’s best player against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, why are you taking him off around the hour mark?
We’re sure Slot will argue that he’s looking to avoid harming Ngumoha’s development by over-relying on the 17-year-old.
But we’ve been pretty careful with the Englishman all season. There’s definitely room to hand the wide man extra minutes, particularly when we don’t seem to have much else of an out ball otherwise.
It’s an isolated example we’re picking out, but there’s been far too many racked up over the course of the campaign to suggest Arne Slot should be totally exempt from the sack this summer.

Why not gakpo? The boos from the fans is justified. Another boo at the final whistle as well. Fsg, have you heard it?
I’m sorry Gakpo should not even be starting today why is Slot being so loyal to him it’s so frustrating. Rio was by far the best player on the pitch today and when he was substituted I felt his frustration too very bizarre decision one of many made by Slot this season
Chiesa is fit but slot will never start him but he persisted with out of form gakpo. Our academy will never improve under slot. I seriously dont know why we hired slot in the first place.
Maybe fsg should sell lfc back to those Gillett suckers before them and we go back to our “usually ” dark , pathetic, average standards and compete with everton on who wil be the king of merseyside!
Why not if Gillette realized what they have been missing out on? How much profit has fsg made since the purchase of Liverpool football club? Mate, this is reality. We will support the head coach if he coached good football but we lost. Can you tell me with your conscience if we have played good football this season?
The worst LFC squad for 10 years. No width, no passion, no idea. You can see the players do not believe in the manager. FSG fod god sake change the manager fir someone with a clue
Those wanting to hire and fire who not just support united? Lfc is about giving chances, being patient ….this are the same fans who were on jota ‘s case last season only to hear later he had a serious medical condition that could not allow for him to fly …leading to his road accident and death they were on konate’s case at start of season only to realize that he was dealing with a sick father…who later passed away …. Lfc fans …we are becoming same as any other heartless selfish fans . Wake up people . Wake up and remember who we are …we never let our own walk alone . We
Fans did not turn on konate nor Jota. When did you hear fans booing them? Fans booed arne slot because of his coaching directions and his selections. Anfield booed arne slot. Can you tell me if 50k+ fans are all delusional? Blind support has to come to an end. I have blindly supported slot for the 1st half of the season but he simply has no idea how to manage the current situation.
The worst lfc fans have seen in my entire life…champions league football secured and someone we are so toxic as if we are serial winners ! Remember the dark times of roy godfuckson but we still supported the team…now we are one of the top 10 European powers(at our lowest ) and we are still complaining, crying, selfish. Maybe we should never sing YWNA and instead sing whatever united sing…#selfish
Mate, after spending 450million and you want to be a top 4/5 club challenging to qualify for ucl? Even bournemouth is challenging for this spot with minimal spending.
Half of money spent was to replace TAA,Diaz and Jota. I hate that we are this divided on players or manager . Currently our hate is directed to gakpo and slot . Remember we are LFC, with imited squad depth. Could we have afforded to give Konate extended time off after is misfortune? And play who instead? People we are LFC, we should win the league at our best, regularly challenge and at our lowest quality for champions league. Objective met…get behind the team who have been very average and manager who has struggled to defend the league tittle ( that he guided team to win). ..sing together..support whole team and look forward to next season. We are not man u…be positive people !
Mate, I’m sorry but I do not hate slot nor gakpo. Gakpo was decent and can perform as what we have seen under klopp. Slot has not performed this season. He tried to transform the team to his 4231 total football tactics but it failed miserably. How many times have we lost this season? 19 games if you include charity shield. This is Liverpool. We do not play to avoid losing. We play to win. Even if we lose, we lose with pride and even opponents applaud our performance. I look with disgust when have 0xg against psg in Paris. Today we see the anfield faithful booing slot and it is no longer a 50/50 divide. Slot had a full preseason and we end up in such a situation. We only have a short preseason for next season due to world cup. How much confidence do you have in slot to totally transform the team next season? Did you watch his post match conference? He doesn’t even have the confidence himself. We recognize and thank him for his contribution but sorry this relationship is unable to continue.
You keep thinking it can’t get any worse after Manchester United game, and it can and it did yesterday against Chelsea.
Chelsea have been the whipping boys forest beat them easily. I’ve never seen Liverpool supporters so frustrated with their manager.
You keep hoping that slot will turn it around but on yesterday it’s now false hope.
The problem ahead for the football club is not the manager, it’s the owners FSG and their response. Everything we’ve heard from FSG is they wont sack slot. They back him 100 percent.
We have disconect between fans and manager and now with owners who don’t care about the supporters. We are one of the biggest clubs on the planet, making 700 million a season, steeped in an illustrious history of success and Ambition win trophies that shankly built.
I genuinely fear for the future with owners who treat fans as cattle for profits , and when we are in decline , as long as champions league revenues are met mediocrity is now acceptable.
Liverpool are now heading into uncharted territory under American owners without klopp, who carried FSG.
Am genuinely frustrated with section of fans who are glued to being cheap…they want to pay cheapest for match day ticket , for merchandise but want to see the best team . We are cheap fans , team is located is middle class city but through the magic of fsg and their use of data and good decision-making be have been regular challengers and celebrated some magical moments together. everything in the world has gone up and we accept because thats a fact of life…but not lfc match day ticket because we are always cheap and sometimes delusional.
