Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the Liverpool hierarchy’s stance on Arne Slot hasn’t wavered despite the mutinous feeling at Anfield at the weekend.
The final whistle of a frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea was met with boos from many in attendance, and there was uproar from the stands when Rio Ngumoha was substituted midway through the second half, a change the head coach attributed to the winger feeling a need to come off.
There’s a growing sense that the patience of the fan base at large has snapped, with James Pearce making comparisons to the depressing end of Roy Hodgson’s tenure midway through 2010/11, although the decision-makers in the boardroom seem to be holding firm in their backing of the Dutchman.
Speaking on his eponymous YouTube channel, Romano claimed that Liverpool chiefs are determined to stick with Slot, adding that no approach has been made to Xabi Alonso despite his continued availability.
The reporter said: “At the moment, the feeling at Liverpool, I can confirm, that it is absolutely in the direction that they want to continue with Slot. Why? Because so far – and it’s May now; it’s no longer February, March, or April – in May, Liverpool have not made contact with any other manager.
“There were many rumours on Liverpool making contact with Alonso coming from Germany, but I can guarantee that Liverpool this year never made any direct approach with Alonso or with his agents.”

At this juncture it seems certain that Slot will see out the remainder of this horrendous season, but it now feels as though he’s past the point of no return in the eyes of many supporters.
Liverpool are still on course to salvage Champions League qualification – a win at Aston Villa on Friday night would guarantee it – but it’s been a long, long time since there was such open revolt against a Reds manager/head coach as there had been at Anfield two days ago.
Having scored inside five minutes against a Chelsea side in such woeful form, that should’ve been the platform to drive on and get the win which would’ve all but secured a top-five finish. Instead, we eased off and rolled out the red carpet for the Blues to find a way back into the game, which they did.
Slot was also culpable of doing nothing to remedy the clear problem that his team had on the right flank, with Marc Cucurella having a field day up against Jeremie Frimpong and Curtis Jones, and fans had every right to be disgruntled with such a passive, error-strewn performance.
The Dutchman will forever have our gratitude for delivering the Premier League title last season, and it’d be wrong not to acknowledge the extreme difficulty he’s faced in trying to guide his squad through the trauma of Diogo Jota’s death.
However, there comes a tipping point where it feels as though a relationship is irreparable, and Saturday felt like that. FSG might be willing to keep faith in him, but that ship has sailed for much of the fan base.

FSG making a big mistake if this is true. Red Sox get clear out and we get more of the same with increased prices for new season! Taking the p.
“RedSox got clear out and we got more of the same” The squad on arrival was 25 strong, end of 1st season FSG off loaded 13 players…. of 25…. how is that not a clear out? Then this season news of possible Elliott, Jones, Konate, Robbo, Salah and a few fringe players already to leave with 5/6 new players incoming…. That in my mind is a massive clear out. So thats a potential 18 players left or loaned out since Slots arrival and so far only 4 active players replaced by Hughes and Edwards…. (not Slots fault they bought wrong)
Look at Arsenal. They had to be patient and are now about to win the Premier League. Any coach needs three seasons to actually build a winning team. Just firing a coach can lead to instability. Slot won us a Premier League.
It is Klopp, not Slot. The boat is already on the reef. Even when losing, if you show no flaws in the set up we can trust the guy. Slot is showing no sign he can carry a team like Lfc. See the chasm btw us and PSG. Game after game he is a spectator. You must be a Manure fan to believe in Slot.
Don’t bet on the bottler. You never know what will happen until the final day. Slot doesn’t need 3 seasons. He has already built a losing team in 1 season.
If you look back at klopp it took him four years to win the premier league, but what you can say under him there was gradual improvement. There was a gameplan and an identity, the supporters could see what klopp was trying to build. Under slot it’s been the complete opposite. What klopp left slot helped him win the league. If you analyse last season after six months it was a slow gradual decline, with slot putting in his training methods.
This season is got steadily worse, no pressing, can’t defend set pieces, we are not functioning team anymore, with or without the ball.
If there was any sign of improvement or at least an identity I would say yes keep the manager, but when its gone this bad you have to make changes otherwise it’s going to worse.
Even this website has now lost faith in the manager. There’s always risk in changing the manager, no guarantee of success whoever the manager is. But we are at the point now where change is needed We are not seeing any progress under slot, it’s decline. It’s why Rodgers was sacked. Any big football club with Ambition must make changes if they are heading in the wrong direction.
As far as Arsenal, it’s been steady progress year on year. They’ve been knocking on the door for years. Just missing out. You’ve Never seen Arsenal under Arteta as bad as we are now.
Slott is a really nice guy and it’s Painful to see how the majority of supporters have now given up on him and the boos whatever he does ? but he should walk away at the end of the season with his head held high after delivering us are 20th League Title. Once you have lost the fanbase to this extent there is no coming back. Playing players out of position, no game plans and players admitting they have given up in some games is disgusting. Yes there has been mitigating circumstances ? injuries, Jotta etc, but there is no improvement week after week and he is out of his depth at Liverpool and has been found out with his Clueless tactics. He has to go ! and be replaced with Alonso. Thank you Arne, but go gracefully because it is all downhill for you from here and there is no coming back for you. No intensity, and what does a Liverpool goal look like these days. No cutting edge team, set out awfully, we are sick and tired of your boring football Arne please just go with dignity, as we don’t wish to see you turned on anymore and for it to turn nasty as you deserve more but your teams are unfit and Clueless to your messages. Too much time off and lack of training has turned LFC into a gang of strangers and a soft touch.
Klopp took 4 years but the football played was exhilarating and we enjoyed every moment whether we won or lost. Today, I simply cannot continue watching a Liverpool match without dozing off. It is just super boring and predictable as I have miraculously predicted many results with my messages here during match days. We either draw and lose. Winning is like a luxury today. Fsg surely you can look at the results even though you know nothing about football.
