Fabrizio Romano has given the ‘here we go’ to Liverpool’s prospective signing of teenage Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans.
Sacha Tavolieri revealed on Sunday that the Reds had opened talks over a potential swoop for the 18-year-old, who plays for Genk and had also been coveted by Bayern Munich, and it now appears that they’ve quickly accelerated towards reaching a deal with his current club.
Shortly before 10:30 on Monday morning, Romano took to X to report: ‘Liverpool have reached verbal agreement with Genk to sign 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, here we go!
‘Deal worth €35m package, expected to join in summer 2027 as LFC already got the authorisation for medical. Formal steps are yet to follow after medical.’
The Italian transfer reporer also credited fellow journalists Tavolieri and Bob Faesen for their initial reporting of the news.

Just as they did with Giorgi Mamardashvili two years ago, Liverpool look set to agree a deal with Brughmans at the end of one summer transfer window and see him come to Anfield the following year.
Coincidentally, the Georgian has reportedly been the subject of an enquiry from Nottingham Forest, although it’s unclear whether or not Merseyside chiefs will sanction an exit for the 25-year-old.
Brughmans is still quite inexperienced, having made just 15 senior appearances for Genk so far, and the level of scrutiny he’d face at England’s most successful club is far higher than that at his current outfit.
However, as per Liverpool Echo, the Reds’ Global Talent department has identified him as a ‘potential star’ of the future, and the reported fee of €35m (£30m) is indicative of just how high a ceiling the Anfield hierarchy believe that he has.
The teenager would be a welcome addition to the LFC ranks if his proposed move to Merseyside goes through, but in the immediate term, fans will be more preoccupied with first-team signings coming in before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday night.
Richard Hughes still has a lot to do if he’s to dispel the prevailing sentiment that the club’s summer activity has been well short of what’s needed after such a dismal 2025/26 season.

Gee scouring the LFC tomes over the last 3 years to find an article to say we have strengthened our defence/we have bought a tough tackling no holds barred boss in the middle of the pitch/a real number 6. Well Route 66 down the middle of LFC is alive and kicking/wait until we play the good teams/we lost the middle of the park to what can only be described as mediocre midfielders at best in the last two games.
