Hugo Ekitike being ruled out for almost a year is the last thing that Liverpool needed.
The Frenchman has arguably been the Reds' best signing this season with his goal single-handedly earning the Reds points.
However, after he ruptured his Achilles during their Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain in April, Arne Slot has been left yet another player short.
This has caused the Reds' transfer links to go into overdrive with several new players linked with an Anfield switch every other day.
And, since it's unclear whether Ekitike will return to his best once he's back from his injury, some succession plans may need to be put in place, especially while he's out of action.
One thing that has been made clear about Liverpool's recruitment process this season is that they're going to buy young players with plenty of potential.
Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz are two prime examples of this with both of them being some of the best players in their positions last term.
Their moves may not have gone as planned thus far but, with an entire season now under their belt, fans will be expecting a lot more from their new signings.
But, due to the poor performances put on display by the club, a couple of changes will certainly have to take place with a 22-goal striker now on Liverpool's radar.
That is, according to an update from Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo who have reported that Liverpool are in the race for Midtjylland striker, Franculino Dju.
"In any case, the competition for Franculino Djú will be fierce this summer, as he's a striker being monitored by clubs like Liverpool, West Ham, Manchester United, Everton, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Roma , as ED has learned," they wrote.
"Even FC Barcelona has him on their radar.
"And his statistics speak for themselves: 55 goals in 105 games for Midtjylland; an average of 0.52 goals per game; he's the second youngest player in Europe's 67 top leagues to have scored more than 20 goals in the last year."
One thing that has been made abundantly clear this season is that Liverpool need to add some new faces to their ranks.
Their performances this season have been extremely poor and, without some new arrivals in the summer, it's hard to see how things will get any better.
Replacing Mohamed Salah is going to be a difficult task in itself and with Andy Robertson also set to exit upon the expiry of his contract, some huge voids will need to be filled.
Ekitike may be out until January at the earliest but, if Liverpool believe that they can stick it out with Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo as their striker options until that point, they may be better off focusing their attention elsewhere in the market.
Anthony Gordon is reportedly available for a £75 million fee and others such as Diomande could also be signed over the next couple of months.
There's no knowing what the future holds but, if changes aren't beginning to be made as soon as the window opens, Richard Hughes and Slot's job will only get harder.
