Mohamed Salah hinted he could become a coach after his playing career ends. The Liverpool star has announced he will leave Anfield at the end of this season.
Salah began his professional career with Arab Contractors in Egypt before moving to Europe and joining FC Basel in 2012. He first arrived in England with Chelsea two years later, but was shipped out to Italy after struggling for form.
The Egyptian showed promise with both Fiorentina and then Roma before returning to the Premier League with the Reds. The rest is history: Salah has scored over 250 goals for the club and been a pivotal part of two league title wins and a Champions League triumph.
He will now wave goodbye to Anfield after nine silverware-filled years, though it was during his time with Roma that Salah hinted his career could soon take a different path.
In 2016, after Salah had signed for the Italian side on an initial loan deal that included a permanent option, he took part in a Q&A on social media.
One fan asked whether the Egyptian would ever consider becoming a coach once his career ends. He replied: "You never know what can happen tomorrow but it is a possibility."
Salah refused to rule out the scenario and hinted that he could transition into coaching once he retires. However, it seems as though he will conclude his playing days at another club after leaving Anfield.
In the same Q&A, Salah didn't rule out a return to the Egyptian league, but current speculation highlights the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer as potential destinations. Salah said in his exit video: "Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell: I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
"I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life. Liverpool, it's not just a football club. It's a passion. It's a history. It's a spirit.
"I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies. And we fought together through the hardest time in our life.
"I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present. And to the fans: I don't have enough words.
"The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It's something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always.
"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
