Noa Lang has given an update following a horrific injury sustained against Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. The Reds played host to the Turkish giants in the second-leg of a last 16 clash in the competition at Anfield, 1-0 down on aggregate.
While Arne Slot's side were able to reverse their fortunes on home soil, it was a grizzly injury picked up by Lang which dominated the headlines. After starting on the bench, the winger was brought on at the start of the second-half as a substitute for Sacha Boey.
However, Lang was unable to see the match out as a result of colliding with pitch-side advertising hoardings and slicing his thumb open with around ten minutes to play. Medics rushed over to treat the 26-year-old as he fell to the ground writing in pain after getting his hand stuck in the pitch-border, before carrying him off on a stretcher and taking him to hospital for further treatment.
Giving an update on the player following the 4-0 loss, Galatasaray head coach, Okan Buruk, said: "He is going to the hospital because of the important issue he has with his finger. If there is an operation, they will do it here."
Galatasaray, meanwhile, released a statement which read: "In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half, but following checks at halftime, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.
"After the match, under the supervision of our medical team, examinations at the hospital revealed a fracture in our player's right forearm, and it was casted. A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days following further evaluations.
"In the second half of the same match, our player Noa Lang, who suffered an injury, sustained a serious cut to his right thumb, and it is planned for him to undergo surgery in Liverpool in the coming hours with the participation of our medical team."
Now, Lang has shared an update of his own from hospital - sharing a selfie all smiles alongside nurses. He simply captioned the post: "S*** happens."
Lang also took to the stories section of his Instagram account to add: "Surgery went well! Thanks for all the messages." Lang's Dutch international team-mates Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Jeremie Frimpong all responded to the message, as have Milos Kerkez and Curtis Jones.
It comes as Liverpool advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League thanks to a 4-1 aggregate win over Galatasaray, and will now face PSG home and away in April. Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring for his side on the night in the first-half, coolly connecting after bursting into the box unmarked from a well-worked corner routine.
Hugo Ekitike was then picked out at the back post by Mohamed Salah early into the second-half, with little work to do as he slotted the ball past Ugurcan Cakir.
Ryan Gravenberch made it 3-0 moments later with a thunderous rebound of Salah's initial strike, before the Egyptian King made his own way onto the scoresheet, curling the ball into the corner of the net following some cute one-two play with Florian Wirtz.
The first leg of the quarter-finals lands at the Parc des Princes come Wednesday, April 8. The reverse at Anfield will then take place on Tuesday, April 14.
Liverpool have reached the UEFA Champions League round of 16 where they face Galatasaray on March 18. Fans can watch the game on the TNT Sports Prime Video channel.
